Saddam Hussein :1937 - 2006

 

Saddam Hussein (April 28, 1937 – December 30, 2006), was the President of Iraq from July 16, 1979 until April 9, 2003, when he was deposed during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. As the leader of Iraq and head of the Baath Party, he espoused secular pan-Arabism, economic modernization, and Arab socialism. Saddam Hussein was hanged on December 30, 2006 at 06:07 local time. The execution took place at the secure facility "Camp Justice" northeast of Baghdad, a security base once used by Saddam.

 이라크서 ‘피의 보복’ 90여명 테러로 숨져

 사담 후세인(Saddam Hussein·69) 전 이라크 대통령이 30일 교수형에 처해진 뒤 이라크 전역에서 90여명이 숨지는 무차별 테러가 잇따랐다.

사담과 같은 이슬람 종파인 수니파 무장세력들은 피의 보복을 맹세했다. 31일 유전이 집중된 이라크 북부 키르쿠크의 군 검문소를 이슬람 무장세력이 공격해 이라크군 3명이 숨졌다. 같은 날 바그다드에서도 사담이 처형된 카다미야 지역 등 3곳에서 폭탄테러와 로켓포 공격으로 4명이 숨졌다고 AFP 통신은 전했다. 앞서 30일에도 이라크 각지에서 발생한 폭탄 테러로 이라크인 80여명이 사망했다.

사담에 대한 교수형은 30일 오전 6시(한국시각 낮12시)쯤 바그다드 북부 카다미야 지역의 전 정보부 건물에서 집행됐으며, 그의 시신은 31일 고향인 이라크 북부 티크리트 부근에 매장됐다. 그의 사형은 이라크 형법이 사형을 금지한 만 70세를 4개월 앞두고 집행됐다.

사담 처형 수시간 뒤 바그다드 북서부 시아·수니파가 혼재하는 후리야 지역에서 3건의 연쇄 차량폭탄테러가 발생해 37명이 숨지고 76명이 다쳤다. 바그다드 남쪽 160㎞의 이슬람 시아파 거주지역 쿠파에서도 미니버스에서 폭탄이 터지면서 31명이 사망했다.

그리스에서는 31일 오전 승객 183명을 태우고 아테네를 떠나 뉴욕으로 향하던 ‘올림픽 에어라인’ 소속 여객기가 폭탄이 탑재됐다는 전화를 받고 아일랜드 새넌에 긴급 착륙했다. 항공사측은 '아랍 억양의 영어로 ‘사담을 위한’ 폭탄이 있다는 전화가 걸려왔다'고 AFP 통신에 밝혔다. 새넌 공항측은 '수색 결과 폭탄은 발견되지 않았다'고 밝혔다.

channels show non stop repeating music programs , a handfull of singers singing patriotic songs and military
parades, endlessly repeating footage of Presidents Saddam HUSSEIN at different occasions. Since the 1991 Gulf War
Saddam HUSSEIN has hardly ever appeared in public and lives in total isolation in one of his many palaces.

Wounded receive medical attention. An army unit follows behind the 2nd brigade to process the
prisoners. Many of the captured Iraqis were wearing civilian clothing underneath military uniforms.
Some said that they were forced conscripts under the threat of death from Baath party.
Many were older than typical soldier age. Many had large amounts of Iraqi currency on them.

He is the grandson and son of Ayatollahs as-SADR executed by the SADDAM regime. He wears,
along with some followers, a white shroud to symbolise the fact that they are prepared for martyrdom.

of US soldiers. The view out of the window of their armoured Humvee is what they mainly see of Iraq.
The most banal and mondaine scene can suddenly become the main danger for them.
Every single car, person etc... is under scrutiny of suspicion.

entered Basrah on April 7th. The British tanks rolled into the city center early in the morning,
encountering pockets of armed resistance. While the fight against these last faddayin was
carried on, wide spread looting began all over the city.

4th Marine Reserve. According to the new military plan, US Marine/Army units are getting
attached to new Iraqi pro-American forces in an effort to gradually hand security operation
over to the Iraqis. In the case of Falluja, several brigades of a "Quick Reaction Force,"
built out of Iraqis mostly from the southern areas, form the IIF (Iraqi Intervention Forces),
nicknamed "Djundis" (arabic=soldier). They patrol the city, raid houses of suspected insurgents
and they are being trained...etc.

PUK controlled territory. At a shootout on a PUK checkpoint near Suleymania 5 members
of the ( more ) moderate Islamist party KOMAR have been killed by PUK Peshmerga who say that
they misstook them for members of the radical Islamist group al-Anzar which is fighting the PUK
near Halabja, at the Iranian border. In the morgue, mosque and funeral in KOMAR controlled villages.
